This years trip I found to be
one of the most relaxing of all. Part of it could be that we
have the planning down to a "refined thing of beauty".
The other part would be the good natured attitude of the participants.
Other specifics were the weather and the fish. Though the
weather was a little different every day and even rained for a period, it
could not have been better. Cool mornings and nights along
with afternoons warm enough for swimming, even without the sauna (though
we will turn it on regardless). The fishing was good.
On the 3 full days in camp we had a fish meal on each one.
Two lunches and a dinner. I look forward to Ben's return
next year (right Ben!) for both his outward personality and the steamed
whole fish dinner, which has become a tradition I do not want to lose
(or attempt myself). The final evenings fish was a highlight
for me. Excellent sunset, loons, cigars, cold beer, many
fish, and live entertainment! Fishing and photography techniques,
fish stories.......(you've got to be there)

Well, another year down and another enjoyable fishing trip. The lake was full of bass, but it seemed
that they were a little finicky about certain baits. Minnows seemed
to work the best, followed by worms, with minimal action on artificial
lures. Mosquitoes were ok and we controlled them with PIC coils but anyone looking for some
early morning relief probably gave them a second chance.
The camp had a new sauna but otherwise, it looked the same as
it did in 1999. Not enough water pails this year, but we were able
to haul enough water to get things done. As usual, we had a lot of food to eat, and everyone
was able to get their dinners to the table with no problems. Peter's
homemade tartar sauce seemed to make the fish sandwiches taste a little
better.
Started sneezing a lot on Tuesday, but the
antihistamine seemed to do the trick. Drank most of my beer, shot a
few beer cans, fought with Mr. Hanky, played a little Euchre, caught a few
bass ---- but not in that order. Another vacation with some nice
memories....
It was a small gang this year, but we still had a
lot of fun. It would have been nice to have our traditional steamed
fish dinner, but without the head chef, we had to do without. Thanks
a lot Ben! Looking forward to next year already!

Attendance: Sophomore Year
Beverage of Choice: Coors Light
I approached this years fishing
expedition with heightened confidence gained from my initial fishing trip
experience gained last year. For instance, I now know that…
- there
is no need to sacrifice precious space in a two-four of beer for
trivial soft drinks (generally supplied if a drying out period is
required)
- a
two-four will just barely, through careful rationing, last me for 4
days of warm weather drinking
- you
need to make a concerted effort to space your bowel movement(s) such
that you minimize your trips to the mosquito hotel (a seasoned fishing
pal seems to be able to limit this activity to a single mid-trip trek)
However you are never too old
to learn and each expedition provides important new life lessons. For
instance this year I learned that…
- you
should not sit next to Andrew in the plane as he has a fond affection
for the barf bag
- a
Cessna aircraft definitely is more lively than a Beaver (see previous
item)
- although
it may seem at times that no one is checking fish size and quantity,
you never know when these subtle details can be brought up in the
course of a discussion
- going
for a pre-dinner hike can mean walking through dense bush filled with
mosquitoes
- two
Faye’s rarely agree on the right direction (see previous item)
Meals were great. Weather was
good. Bass fishing was good although I was shut out on the last two
sorties. It was getting so bad that on the final hour of the final evening
I resorted to picking up my rod, checking my bait a couple of times and
actually trying to catch something. I guess I used up all my luck (and
Andrew’s) in beating the professional euchre team of Eric and Fred
earlier.
In summary as Ben has been
known to say…good trip. Ben, we missed you and your steamed Bass.
Thanks to the fishing pals for
their efforts to pull the trip together, their culinary treats and
hospitality.

Another fine fishing vacation!
The company, cabin, boats, and weather were
excellent.
I personally fished and therefore caught more
fish than ever.
The only regret was that we could not capture a
photo of the very large cow moose we encountered on our return portage
from Chrebef Lake. Its definitely etched in human memory though.
