Another exceptional good year of fishing on Sashihaw. Richard our resident host did a fine job leading us on an excursion trout fishing and entertaining us with his guitar and verbal experiences. He and Fred also made a big patch of pike wontons which were a very tasty addition to the menu this year. Thanks again for the use of the camp and to all those who attended.

The 20th anniversary of the FishingPals organization turned out to be another successful fishing trip with good food, fishing, and fun. We've shown that we can do more than just barbecue chunks of meat. Andrew has stepped up his game this year and introduced quinoa along with his Texas rubbed chicken breasts. We might need to bring a barbecue brush next year. We also gave Eddy's Pike wontons a try, and they turned out pretty good. Ron was able to complete his Broiled Parmesan-Lemon Tilapia as well. FishingPals could soon become FoodyPals.
The fishing worked out pretty well. We got skunked at Trotter Lake, but otherwise, we were able to catch enough walleye and bass to be fed. We even brought fish back this year. We might need some lessons on how to tie down canoes on a trailer, but we were able to eventually get to Kasasway without any real problems. And like last year, the lake produced. Kasasway may turn out to be one of our regular fishing spots.
The extracurricular activities this year included some skeet shooting, hill climbing, a VHS movie, and a little euchre. Yes, you read that right... the television was turned on. Andrew and myself were at the camp while the rest of the crew went exploring across the street at Kenogaming Lake. The movie was '15 Minutes' with Robert De Niro. Not one of his best works... A euchre throwdown was staged when Andrew and David wanted to take on any 'old' team. It was close, but the young-uns almost upset the wiley veteran euchre team comprised of Eric and myself. Their over confidence proved to be their undoing, as well as counting on luck to pull them through...
Special thanks to Richard and Dan for coming out and giving us a hand on Friday and Saturday. We always enjoy the company. Until next year...

This year's trip went smoothly. Oddly, I did not forget anything. We had all the groceries, bait, etc.... The weather cooperated. The only significant rain occurred on the drive up just west of North Bay. Later on the radio, we discovered it was a tornado which damaged some trees and houses. At the end of the trip when I contacted Sue (when cell coverage was obtained), she informed us the same storm knocked down 9 trees at the Fay cottage on Doe Lake. The fallen trees did not hit the cottage or Pete's car. A clean up is planned for the August long weekend.
The fishing was good on Sashihaw. We caught some large walleye on multiple outings and the usual abundance of Pike. Fred and Richard treated us to Eddy's specialty Pike wonton recipe. Excellent lunch. Adding Frank's sweet and sour sauce to the grocery list for next year!
This year we were ambitious. Went on two out trips. On Saturday, Richard took us to Trotter Lake to try our luck at catching speckled trout. No Luck. On Monday we headed to Kasasway on our own. With the aid of Fred's GPS with plotted waypoints and a Google map, we successfully made the journey. The fish were biting. Many large (9) and small bass. Went thru the worms quickly and then the minnows. I caught what may have been a 5 or 6 pound Pike. Fun to get into the net and boat, but not the tracker.
Richard played his guitar around the fire. Excellent selection of cover songs. Could be the next country star to come out of Timmins. Watch for him on YouTube! Richard is an inspiration for David to keep up with his lessons.
Looking forward to 2014.
