2016 was another great year. The meal plan consisted of all the favourites from years past, mine being Pike Wonton Soup. The new 4 stroke motors on the pontoon boats enabled us to redefine fishing on Sashihaw. Drifting along casting close to short proved exceptional. On the last day, the party boat landed a staggering twelve Walleye. The new motor can't take all the credit, St. Croix (aka the S1 of fishing rods) was dangling the Blue Fox, snipping the shore all day! Next year with the extra space available with the trailer, we can bring the KTM dirtbike for David to learn the importance of motorcycle riding. Another useful tool that I hope to remember to bring is a kitchen scale used for weighing fish portions exactly. Now that Fred has "learned" the card game Hearts, we can play for money next year. I already look forward to the twenty third installment of FishingPals. |

Since I was absent from the Fishing Trip last year, I have now grown a much greater appreciation for everything involved in the trip. My taste buds seem to have changed --- I finally enjoy eating the fish we caught. This year we also could not have asked for better weather, not too hot, not too cold, barely any rain. The weather motivated me to go canoeing in a pike pond, and I really enjoyed it with my Uncle Ron. Our new fishing style resulted in the most walleye we have caught in history, also resulted in my losing the most lures in history (4 in one day). More broken records include the most bug bites I've ever had in my life. A few improvements for next year would be bring back an excursion to spice things up, bringing Andrew's dirtbike and getting FishingPals an insta/twitter account. |

This year's trip went very well. The weather was good most of the time. It went from wearing a jacket to fend off a cool breeze, to stripping down to shorts to fish, tan or jump in the plunge pool on the deck. The fishing was excellent once we focused on the technique that worked best. Casting to within a meter from shore. All lures seemed to work. Mepps (Andrew and George) and Rapalas (David). Since there were misfires and underwater structure snags, I got a considerable amount of boat maneuverability experience. Turning the large pontoon a full 180 degrees is a graceful feat at this point. Once again we found the camp enhanced since our last visit. There is a now a large canopy on the deck to shade the sun\rain. Also the walkways were widened outside the sauna for better seating. More solar panels which allowed us to run the generator less and always have cold beer and ice. Thanks again Eddy for the attention and assistance you give to us. Very much appreciated. |

It was another great trip for the FishingPals. This year, no rental vehicles were needed. Instead, FP Peter brought a U-Haul trailer, which provided more than enough room for all of our gear. The trip to the camp went smoothly and no problems with the low riding trailer. Notable improvements made to the camp, included the garage, additional solar panels, firewood storage, shaded outdoor seating, generator shed, and decking. It was good to see Ed and Toby again. Our deep fried turkey didn't go as planned, but in the end, we ate the bird, and no one got sick. This year's fishing was better than average, and I would have to say that it was likely the best year we've had on Sashihaw. We didn't even need to plan a day trip to another lake. As usual, the food was excellent by any fishing standards. Pike Wonton soup has become a FishingPals favourite now. With the high walleye population, we were able to secure our fish dinner a day earlier than scheduled. FishingPals may soon be branching out to being 'FoodyPals'. The evenings were busy with card games, and watching some old FishingPals video footage. I learned a new card game, and it was either beginner's luck or I have a wickedly high IQ. It's not everyday when the student whips the teacher. I'll have to defend my title next year. Thanks a lot to Andre and Eddy. This trip has turned out to be something that gives great value for the amount of effort we exert. We enjoyed a great trip and had a chance to catch up with Ed and Toby. |

Really enjoyed the company, warm / hot weather, food, fishing, accommodation, and nature seen on the way to, or at the camp. Including four moose, one deer, mink, bear, various water fowl, and birds of prey. Can't say I enjoyed the black flies and deer flies, but without those, the food chain may be broken. |
