This year's trip took place from Thursday July 19 to Tuesday July 21. We decided to offset the trip by one day in order to catch the show by tribute band, "Voodoo Lounge" at the Horseshoe Valley Resort on July 22. It's rare that Brad's band plays up in cottage country, so we decided to make the effort. We met in Gravenhurst on Thursday and the trip to Sashihaw was on schedule, making our usual stops in Parry Sound and Chelmsford. However, Ben's "check engine" light popped up before we reached Chelmsford for lunch. We stopped to gas up and get a can of seafoam at Canadian Tire. We poured the can into the gas tank and that seemed to do the trick. The car was running better, and the check engine light went off. NOTE: Don't ever try to get any assistance from a garage in Chelmsford. They're too busy.
We were greeted at the camp by Andre and spent the rest of the day unpacking and having a steak dinner. We noted the upgrades since our last visit, and it was nice to see the addition of bunk beds. More heads in beds meant that our entire crew could stay at the main camp. We were able to get some fishing time in, before we started working on some camp projects. Andrew and Rick demolished an old pontoon boat, so that it is ready for the rebuild. I understand that they have an interview with the Leafs soon, to help with that rebuild. We added a few more planks to the new deck, and refinished some old paddles to add a little more life to them. Also, some plumbing repair was completed in the sauna.
With enough pike meat, we were able to get our wontons made. There is no danger of not having enough pike to make them. Richard showed up and was able to demonstrate his pike cleaning skills. This year's day trip was out to Hardiman Lake. It was sunny, and the bass were biting. We were able to successfully catch enough fish for our steamed fish dinner. It was another win for the FishingPals. Dreams of next year are already in the works.
